This amazing read blew me away with captivating characters and a beautifully written story that went seamlessly between past and present day, keeping me glued to the book and I really wanted it to continue when I got to the last page. I went through the entire gamut of emotions - I laughed, I cried, and I loved every minute of it! I also became more aware of the problems military families face including the ugliness of war, death, survivor's guilt, PTSD, and more. I felt a real connection to young widow Harper Lee Wilcox and loved her dynamic with the other characters, especially her mother, son Ben, and Bennett "Grizzly" Caldwell, a SEAL who served with her husband and was his best friend. This book is a must-read for anyone who loves well-crafted novels. Ms. Trentham has given us another winner and I look forward to reading more from this talented author. I received an advance reader copy of The Military Wife from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my voluntary and unbiased review. I liked the book so much, I purchased it for my keeper library.

The Military Wife A Heart of a Hero Novel Laura Trentham 9781250145536 Books Reviews
For nearly five years Harper Wilcox has been living half a life, when she lost her husband it not only crippled her, but it left her a shell of the carefree and happy woman she used to be. Each day is a struggle, she puts on a brave face, goes off to work a job she doesn't really enjoy, all to provide some semblance of normalcy for her young son. And while she feels like she is finding her way back, her mother has kindly pointed out on numerous occasions that she still isn't living her best life, she is stuck in limbo. She's afraid to fully move on for fear of forgetting the man who gave her so much, but she knows the only way she can truly be happy again is to let the past go and to create a new life.
Little does she know the kindness of one man is about to change everything, his one small gesture is about to give her all that she has been longing for... the second chance she so desperately needs.
The Military Wife is poignant tale that follows a young widow through her struggle to regain happiness in her life after facing the darkest day of it, the day her husband died overseas. With alternating past and present chapters you get glimpses into their lives before his death, and then a present day view, which gives you a vivid look at life after a devastating loss. These alternating chapters allow you to meet Noah, watch them fall in love, and develop an appreciation for all they endured with his deployments, much like I imagine many families face in reality everyday. You also meet fellow teammates of Noah's, learn how they to are struggling with his death, and gain a haunting view of how facing combat has effected them and their families.
This beautifully crafted story doesn't shy away from the ugliness of war, or the devastation it brings into soldiers lives, it paints a honest picture, one that will be felt long after you close the book. There were many moments on this literary journey that had my heart in my throat, and tears welling, but there were also happier moments that brought smiles and joy too, it's one heck of a roller coaster ride... a ride I think every reader should take. I am no stranger to Ms. Trentham's work, I have read many of her titles and adored them, so my interest in this new venture of hers was very high, and I must say it did not disappoint. As a matter of fact I think it is her best work yet, her absorbing words seeped deep into my heart and left it forever changed! If there is one book you pick up this year, please make it this one, it holds a touching story of the most unforgettable characters you'll ever meet!
Your story but the problems our military faces daily. They should make a movie and the author should get get Laura for her writing. I am Korean War vet. Thank you
This was the first book I've read by this author and it won't be my last. This is a wonderful story that starts off with new love and ends the same way. In between there is love and heartbreak. It also deals with loneliness and guilt and strength and courage. The love story is wonderful. All the characters are well written. I hope this is a series because it left me satisfied but wanting more. 5/5 stars
Harper has been barely living. After the tragic death of her husband while serving overseas, she takes a strange kind of comfort in the endless routine of sleep, work and home.
Her brightest light comes from her young son, Ben. He was never able to meet the father that he looks so much alike and every time she sees him smile, the pain in her heart eases just a little.
She’s finally come to understand that to heal completely, she has to know what happened when Noah was killed. And the only man that tell her that is Bennett “Grizzly” Caldwell.
The SEAL team that he served with was the only family that Bennett ever really knew. He was passed from home to home while in foster care until finding his way to the US Navy.
He and Noah forged an unbreakable bond during their hellish training. Sometimes at night, Noah would read the letters from his girlfriend out loud just so they could feel a little closer to home. She was surprisingly funny, smart and unlike any other girl that Bennett had ever encountered. And that was when he secretly fell in love with his best friend’s girl.
He made a promise to Noah that he would take care of his family if anything ever happened to him. It was the one promise that he wished he didn’t have to keep.
He never thought that she would ever come looking for him and the answers that would expose him. But now that she has, he never wants to let her go.
Reading The Military Wife swamped me so many emotions that it was hard for my heart to keep up! Laura Trentham deals honestly with the immense burden placed on those serving and their families all while weaving an achingly tender love story.
Her characters are so alive and complex that I simply forgot time and immersed myself in their world. I laughed and I cried. And I was reminded of why it's so important to treasure every single moment…
